How to use Robots & Gadgets in Google Wave

Posted by Prashanth On October - 7 - 2009

Bots & Gadgets plays very important role in Google Wave, a wave without them is like Firefox without extensions!! This guide is for starters who are new to Google Wave.

Using Robots:

This is what Google says about Robots:

A robot is an automated participant on a wave. A robot can read the contents of a wave in which it participates, modify the wave’s contents, add or remove participants, and create new blips and new waves. In short, a robot can perform many of the actions that any other participant can perform.

As mentioned above, Robots behave like buddy on Google Wave. To use a bot, you just need to add it to your wave. For example: Emoticony is a Robot which keeps looking at conversations & converts smileys into image icons on the fly as you type it. To use this bot, just add emoticonbot@appspot.com to your wave.

Using Gadgets:

Google Wave gadgets are similar to the ones we already seen in Google Homepage, iGoogle. But Google Wave gadgets are more interactive. A map gadget allows user in a wave to pan around, locate a place & share it with others on that wave. Similarly, an Yes/No/Maybe gadget can be used in a wave & all folks on that wave can RSVP right away. To add a gadget to wave, click on “Add Gadget by URL” option, you will get that option while you are typing in wave.
